这个短语的意思是 to laugh a lot, very loudly，in a boisterous hearty manner （大声笑、非常欢脱、发自内心的笑）。

drain是排水沟的意思，“像排水沟一样笑”，就可以想象笑起来那种一发不可收的感觉了。

偷笑

这个短语的意思是to secretly find something funny （私底下觉得某事/某人很好笑）。

sleeve是袖子，英语里也有另一个跟sleeve有关的短语 have sth up one's sleeve(暗中有应急的计划、打算，有什么事瞒着别人先不说）。

由此可见，sleeve用在laugh up one's sleeves也是同样有遮遮掩掩的意思，所以就是偷笑啦。

belly是肚子，我们知道有“腹式呼吸”所以从字面意思上来看，belly laugh 是腹式微笑吗？并不是的，它是表达 a loud, uninhibited laugh （毫无拘束的大声笑）。

联想一下大笑不止的时候肚子也跟着一起一伏，就很好理解这个短语了。

突然笑起来

burst是爆发、突然发生的意思，to burst out laughing 就是“突然爆发出一阵笑声、突然笑起来”的意思。

The kids burst out laughingwhen the clown fell down on stage.

小丑摔倒在舞台上时，孩子们突然大笑起来。

突然笑起来

与上面to burst out laughing类似，同样表达“突然笑起来”的短语还有burst into laughter。

需要注意的是burst out 后面跟的是laugh的动名词形式，而burst into后面是跟名词 laughter，注意不要用混了。

He looked shocked, then burst into laughter.

他看起来很震惊，然后大笑起来。

to kill yourself laughing

笑死

这个短语表示to be overcome with laughter （笑得受不了了）和中文的“笑死”异曲同工，也是很形象的表达。

If you say that you killed yourself laughing, you are emphasizing that you laughed a lot because you thought something was extremely funny.

如果你说你笑死了，你是强调你因为觉得有些事情非常有趣而大笑。
